Simret Sutti was a 9th grader at Pittsburg High School (currently an 11th grader) when she was in Beginning Photography. She also has other experiences in art such as web designing and music. She has been in photography and web designing for about four months and in music playing clarinet, bass clarinet, and tenor saxophone for 4 years. Simret likes to take photos of still objects because you can do many things with them such as moving them around and getting every angle. She also likes taking pictures of landscapes and taking all the pictures at family parties and vacations. After high school, Simret plans to attend UC Davis to become a pediatrician and hopes to continue photography and music in university as well.
- I like to take photographs because it requires me to think creatively about what I want to take pictures of and how. What ways can I angle the camera, how to place the objects and position the people I'm working with, and what settings should I use. Those are some of the things I think about when taking photographs. One subject I prefer is Still-Life Photography because it allows you to do anything you wish to do with the objects you are working with. With people, you have to tell them what to do and sometimes they might not cooperate, but with Still-Life you can move the objects yourself however you prefer. I believe my work is different from others because I try to create realistic photos without much editing. Yes, I do edit my photos and a couple might be quite edited but I try to take a nice picture before the editing as well so I don't have to do any major editing to it. In my photos I see a fifteen-year-old girl who tries to take the best pictures she can. I have never taken the best pictures, nor do I do now, but I hope to advance in photography after high school, through university, and maybe have a side career in photography.
I don't know when I first became interested in photography, but I remember taking many pictures at some family parties and vacations. I probably didn't know it then, because I was younger, but I always tries to use in my photos is the element of composition of space. I never got just the person I was trying to get a picture of but the background and the area around the person as well and putting the person all the way to the left of the picture or all the way to the right of the picture. Now, whenever I take a picture I still do the same thing but also try to adjust the other settings to create a nice photograph. I consider myself as a developing photographer trying to learn as much as I can as I continue through photography.
